Nepal
The good shepherd
Trafficking is a serious violation of human rights and the depths of the problem cuts across rural and urban areas and between regional, national and international boundaries In November 2006, news broke about the trafficking of 500 children at the mid-Western region in Nepal which prompted an immediate response from a number of organizations.
Dhan Bahadur (or DB as he is called) is the Executive Director of the Himalayan Innovative Society(THIS). The organization was set up to protect and promote the human rights of the people of Nepal, especially children, orphans, the disadvantaged and others affected by conflict. Since 2006, THIS has been working for child rights and reintegration of trafficked children into appropriate care institutions such as orphanages and childrens homes. So far THIS has reintegrated over 500 children back to their families and 95 percent of whom have resettled in their families and villages.
DB came from a family of shepherds in the Tibetan border area of Humla district. He invests his time and energy supporting and aiding the people of Humla, who are isolated from the rest of Nepal. As a result of poverty, geographical difficulty and conflict, some people from the region choose to live nomadic lives. But DB, upon finishing a degree from the prestigious school of Budanilkantha in Kathmandu, choose to return to the marginalized region of Humla to action his dreams of providing his people with sustainable peace and development.

Rapid Response Programme to save the lives of children from Humla:
A 15 year old boy who is living with his mother (after his father's death) was fainted due to some problem in the urinary system was supported with Rs. 3000.00 (Rupees Three Thousands only) as emergency support for the treatment from THIS under TDH funded Mala III project after the district hospital referred him to have specialized service in Nepalgunj or Surkhet. Our active social workers acted immediately and raised more funds from various other organizations to support this child to get down to Nepalgunj and have treatment.
This isn't the only case that our social workers handled. Our social workers support several such cases in a year. We have been supporting several cases through THIS under ISIS Foundation supported project as well. We provided air tickets, medical treatment cost and food support for both the patient and his care giver.
Thanks to Chhatup, Nabaraj, Niralan, Gurmu and Tsering. You guys are doing great job!!!

Episode One -2 Final
This street drama is to raise awareness in order to reduce child-trafficking in the remote district of Humla. It emphasizes the importance of parental care for the overall development of children, physically, emotionally, and socially. Family separation is the major problem in Humla due to child-trafficking and the search for better education.
This drama describes a poor family who sent their children with an influential person "Raja Sahib" to Kathmandu and end up finding their child was trafficked for inter-country adoption. It also describes the consequences children face when they are kept in illegal orphanages. It also describes the mental depression of the parents to lose their child forever.
This project is supported by UNICEF and Terre des Hommes Foundations through The Himalayan Innovative Society in Humla. Our main objective is to reduce child-trafficking and inform the population about family and community-based alternative care in Humla. This drama has already been performed in three VDCs in the project area and aired on local FM radio, Kailash FM, in Simikot, under the "Humli Chhachhoriko Danko" (Voice of Humli Children) program. The radio program was supported by the ISIS Foundation.
